Mr. Bert C. Ubamadu
Bert C. Ubamadu is the Managing Director of
Fairmont Capital Strategy Group LLC (Fairmont
CSG).
Fairmont CSG is a strategic advisory
consulting firm focused on assisting African
companies and banks with sourcing debt and
equity financing for transactions and working
with international companies to source projects
and partners in Africa. Mr. Ubamadu has
over
15 years of global
emerging market
project development, project finance, project
structuring, business development and
institution building experience. Mr.
Ubamadu has played a significant role, both on
business, legal and policy issues, in
supporting over $3 billion in financing for
projects in Sub-Saharan Africa. Prior to
becoming the Managing Director of Fairmont CSG,
Mr.
Ubamadu worked at the Export-
Import
Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank) where he
developed, structured and documented
multimillion dollar project finance, structured
finance and trade finance transactions in
Africa and other emerging markets. Mr. Ubamadu
was the lead lawyer for Ex-Im Bank for the $2
billion dollar Nigeria LNG project, which is
one of the largest private sector multi-sourced
financing projects in Africa. Mr. Ubamadu
played a significant role in creating
institutional solutions to the problems Ex-Im
Bank encountered in trying to increase its
financing support in Sub-Saharan Africa,
including: creating an oil/gas subcontractor
financing structure which supports local
capacity development efforts; structuring
secondary market offering program to lower the
cost of financing for African buyers, and
creating due diligence guidelines to address
reputational risk and corporate governance
issues in the region.
Mr. Ubamadu has
also worked for Marriott International, Inc.
where he helped develop hotel projects in
Europe, Middle East and Africa. Before
joining Marriott, Mr. Ubamadu worked as a
senior associate in the Los Angeles and
Washington, D.C. offices of the international
law firm now known as Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw
Pittman. Mr. Ubamadu also lectures on political
risk and project finance transactions in
emerging markets at the Washington College of
Law at American University.
Mr.
Ubamadu received his law degree from the
University of California at Berkeley’s Boalt
Hall School of Law and holds a Masters degree
from the Harris School of Public Policy at the
University of Chicago.

Mr. Ubamadu comes to Fairmont CSG from the
Export-Import Bank of the United States ("Ex-Im
Bank") where he developed, structured and
documented multimillion dollar project finance,
structured finance and trade finance
transactions in Africa and other emerging
markets. Mr. Ubamadu was a key member of Ex-Im
Bank’s Africa Task Force and a strong advocate
of the Bank’s efforts to increase financing
support for the export of goods and services
into Africa.
